We’re Making Music!

We’ve been exploring composition and Classical Music in music classes!  From Preschool to 1st grade, students have been moving to Mozart’s music with scarves, learning rhythms to songs about autumn and singing the solfege syllables with hand signs.  In grades 2-3, the students have been creating their own rhythm compositions, moving to the “Surprise Symphony” by Franz Joseph Haydn and analyzing rhythms in classical music.  In 4th and 5th grade, the students are doing a wonderful job researching a Classical piece by a famous composer for the “My Classical Playlist” project. The students are also learning about syncopated rhythms and discovering different types of musical textures.  In the middle school, the guitar students are learning to play songs by the Beatles, Cold Play, and Pete Seeger.  The Composition and Keyboards students are creating their own lyrics for a blues song and listening to famous blues composers including Robert Johnson and Bessie Smith.  We’ve all been working hard to stay safe and make music together!

Welcome Back to Quest!

I’m Annabel Hasty and I’m so excited to be teaching Music for Grades PS-5 this year! I’ll also be teaching Guitar & Music Composition to Middle school students.  I’m fortunate to also teach CSAI teacher for Grades K-4 and I can’t wait to work with all of you on computer science and artificial intelligence.  It’s going to be a busy year but I love teaching the kids at Quest Academy!

My email address is annabel.hasty@questacademy.org and you can feel free to send me any questions or comments about your students. We will be learning about opposites in music class during the start of the school year.  The older grades will be learning about musical opposites like vivace and lento while the younger students will be learning about Goldilocks and the Three Bears with patterns that are too fast, too slow, and just right!

I look forward to seeing you all at Curriculum Night on September 10 where I can virtually meet all the parents!
